Ahimsa Nonviolence Promotes
Kindness
Self care
healthy relationships
non harming
Satya Truthfulness is
Asserting own beliefs
critical thinking
freedom from fear and self guilt
Asteya non stealing is
respect for others privacy and possessions
not taking advantage of others
Bramacharya self control is
practice of moderation
Aprigraha non hoarding
no greed
simplification instead of accumulating hoarding
Violation of mamas can lead to
guilt fear anger revenge depression
Five Niyamas
Niyamas are observances
- Purity (shauch)
- Contentment (santosh)
- Will power (tapas), determination to keep goals
- Study (svadyaya)
- Surrender to higher self (ishwara pranidhana), looking for meaning in the world
forms of Saucha
cleanliness and purity
- physical
- verbal
- mental
- environmental
Santosha contentment is
contentment, optimism and gratitude
allows to accept people and situations as they are
Tapas, will power is
developing a habit of self discipline and determination to keep goals
promotes self efficacy, self confidence and self respect
yama and niyama help
purify the mind
obtain more physical and mental energy
