What was Appeasements?
Neville Chamberlain, the British Prime Minister, was keen to avoid war. He believed this could be achieved through the use of negotiation, agreements and diplomacy. His policy was to appease Hitler, which usually meant giving in to Hitler’s territorial demands.

What was American Isolationism?
This was when the USA refused to join the League because a previous European war had already costed them too many American lives and Germany new the only country strong enough to defeat them was the USA.
What was the Nazi-Soviet Pact?
This was when the Nazis and Soviet Union ceated a pact to temporarily not fight each other which bought them both time.
What happened in June 1942?
American dive -bombers destroy the Japanese aircraft carriers at the Battle of Midway
What happened in October 1942?
General Montgomery’s troops defeat the Nazis at El Alamein
What happened in February 1943?
German General von Paulus surrenders at Stalingrad
What happened in July 1943?
Allies invade Sicily and Italy surrenders
What happened in Autumn 1943?
Hitler’s forces on the Easter Front were defeated.
What happened in June 1944?
Britain and the USA invade France. 6 June was known as D-Day

Allies arrive in Paris
What happened in March 1945?
Allies cross the Rhine into Germany.
