Moses
An important figurehead who allegedly fought against slavery. Important to Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
Gandhi
A ‘colored’ lawyer who was persecuted for standing up for the people of the Hindu faith. He was a pacifist and assassinated for his ‘crimes’.
Martin Luther King
He fought for black rights and is very important to Christianity.
Guru Nanak
The first guru in Sikhism.
Guru
A ‘teacher’ in the religion of Sikhism

‘Common kitchen’; a communal meal, which is open to everyone, run by the Sikhs.
Conditional pacifist
A person who tries to avoid physical violence or killing, but feels it is necessary in some circumstances.
Absolute pacifist
A person who believes it is never right to fight or take the life of another person, no matter what.
Coloured
A very disrespectful term used for any person who is not of completely white heritage.
Boycott
To refuse to buy into/use something, which you do not agree with.
Minorities
People who are perceived as different e.g. black skin, homosexual, etc.
Segregation
separating people based on things out of their control, e.g. race.
Covenant
An agreement between humans and a higher being.
Contingent
Describes a being, which is confined within the limits of space and time.
Mortal
With a limited life/power/knowledge.
Immortal
A being without limits.
Incomprehensible
Not understandable to human beings.
Transcendent
Beyond and above human experience; without beginning or end.
Prophet
A messenger of a higher being, such as god.
Passover
A traditional Jewish festival, celebrating the escape of the Jewish slaves from Egypt.
Torah
A Jewish holy book; translated from Hebrew as ‘law’ or ‘instruction’.
Ineffable
Too great or extreme to be expressed or described in words.
Ten commandments
Ten rules given to Moses by God, which some religious people believe must be fulfilled, in order to live a good life.
Caste
Position in society.
Anthropomorphism
Representing a divine being as mortal.
Ontological
Showing the relations between the concepts and categories in a subject area or domain.
