Y8 Electricty And Magnetism Flashcards
What does a voltmeter measure?
Volts.
What is electricity used for?
To power stuff.
Why is electricity dangerous?
It can kill you.
What is lightning?
Electricity.
Does water conduct electricity?
Yes.
What are normally the most common conductors of electricity? (Type of substance)
Metal.
Would we get electrocuted if we did not have water in our body?
No.
What is electricity made from?
A flow of charged electrons.
What is a parallel circuit?
A circuit with two or more paths.
What is the flow of particles measured with? (Type of measurement)
Amps.
How do parallel circuits work?
The same amount of electricity is put into each path, so if there were two paths half the power would go in each.
What is a good thing about parallel circuit?
It can power multiple things at once.
Say a bad thing about parallel circuits?
The power received by a light bulb is less.
What is the same all the way around in a series circuit?
The amount of current.
What is resistance?
It is when something receives less power because electricity finds it harder to get through as it is longer.
Where does resistance happen a lot?
In wires.
How many electrons in coulomb?
6.2 X 10^18 (6200000000000000000)
What is another name for volts?
Potential Difference.
What is voltage a measure of?
How much electrical energy is being transferred at different points in the circuit.
Is there more or less resistance in a longer wire.
More.
Is there more or less resistance in a shorter wire.
Less.
What do most magnets have.
A North and South pole.
What poles attract each other?
Opposite poles attract.
What poles repel each other?
Same poles repel each other.
