define project management
project management is the process of leading a team to achieve specific goals & objectives. It involves planning, organising, executing, monitoring progress to ensure a successful completion of the project
what are the 2 approaches

- Protoype method
describe the structured method + advantages & disadvantages
- involves a defined process, rules, responsibility and tools
- it means managing a process in a logical, organised way
Advantages
- clear rules & responsibilities
- detailed planning and scheduling
- improved cost and budget control
- better risk management
- improved communication
Disadvantages
- inflexibility
- high costs
- lack of innovation
- slow implementation
- over reliance on documentation
When to use
- best used with determined time limit
- terms and requirements are well established

- iterative and agile approach
- creates a model of something and modifying it in consultation with the client
Advantages
- requirements are not well defined
- allows rapid iteration and faster feedback
- errors can be detected much easier
- missing functionality can be identified
- clients get a better understanding of the system being developed
Disadvantages
- higher costs
- limited functionality
- confusing stakeholders
- risk of rejection
- lack of integration
When to use
- when desired system needs a lot of interaction with client
- ensures end user works with the system and provides feedback constantly
what are site maps
- model of the websites content designed to help navigate the site
- can be a hierarchical list of pages organised by topic
- provides a clear overview of connections between webpages
what are flowcharts
- illustrates sequence of tasks users may experience whilst interacting
- may also help potential usability issues
- focuses on the route to get to point A to B
what are storyboards
- detailed visual representation of the individual page, showcasing layout and content
- used to display what the site looks like
- includes layout & structure, design elements & principles, organisation of content & navigational controls
what is a gantt chart
- illustrates time frames of design projects
- breaks project into tasks and assigns time and resources
what is project management software
- used to collaborate with team members in real time
- used for planning, scheduling, resource management and change management
what is usability
- extent to which a product can be used to achieve specific goals
- a usable interface has 3 main outcomes
- should be easy for user to become familiar with and compentent in using the product interface
- should be easy to use to achieve goals
- should be easy to recall interface and how to use it
what is accessibility
- focuses on people with disabilities
what is user experience (UX)
- focused on the user and their journey through the product
- must make your project easy and enjoyable to use
what is user interface (UI)
