X Rays Flashcards
What type of tissue attenuates X rays the most?
Bone
Why does air appear black on an Xray?
Air hardly attenuates the X ray at all so this means that the areas on the Xray film which correspond to areas of air have been exposed to a high level of Xrays and thus the film appears black
Which insoluble, non-toxic salt is commonly used to fill bowel loops and arteries to make them appear more clearly on x rays?
Barium sulphate
What is subtraction angiography and how does it work?
It is used to see blood vessels more clearly. An image is taken and inverted then the patient is given a contrast agent and the image is taken again. The inverted and contrast images and superimposed to give a clear image of the blood vessels without bones and soft tissue obstructing the view
