A
- religion, many of Wyatt’s urban supporters coming from Maidstone, a Protestant stronghold
- xenophobia
- decline in local cloth industry could have prompted poorer rebels to use the revolt as means if expressing social and economic grievances
- attracted some gentry who had lost office within the county

7 Feb - Rebels stop at Ludgate on the edge of the City of London, Wyatt surrenders

Why was Wyatt’s rebellion significant ?
A
- even though Protestants in minority, religious opinions could not be ignored
- showed extent to popular suspicion of proposed Spanish marriage
- resulted in execution of Lady Jane Grey (innocent victim of her fathers support for the rebellion)
- Wyatt came close to securing city of london
