Events in the rebellion

A

-Some gentry at court began engineering Protestant succession
-Wyatt raised 2500 men and persuaded Norfolk’s forces to join
-Mary rallied support with speech at Guildhall
-Rebels reached Southwark on 6th Feb then moved to Kingston (half a kilometre from the Queen)
-Forced to surrender on 7th Feb

Consequences of the rebellion

A

-90 rebels were killed, including Wyatt
-Executed Lady Jane Grey and her husband
-Arrested Elizabeth but found not guilty
-Gardiner and Paget (her interrogators) didn’t want to uncover whole truth and alienate her
-Showed Protestantism was still prevalent and that people disagreed with the marriage
