World War I

A

1914-1918

primarily involving European powers. Triggered by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the war saw intense trench warfare, the use of new military technologies, and massive loss of life. It ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, which redrew borders and imposed heavy reparations, setting the stage for World War II.
