What is militarism?
Countries were building their armies for security of their colonies. Countries were feeling threatened by other countries armies.
What were the alliances?
Triple Entente = Britain, France, Russia
Triple Alliance = Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy
What are Imperialism and Nationalism?
Imperialism is when a country expands its power into a large empire. Imperial countries were very rich.
Nationalism is pride and patriotism in one’s own nation.
This caused competition between various countries.
Why was the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria important?
It was important because it was the event that started the war.
What is conscription?
Mandatory military service

Why was WWI important for women?
Women started working more; they took over men’s jobs in factories; they contributed to the war; they started to protest and fight for their rights, etc
How are women’s rights and conscription related?
Men were forced to go to war because of conscription so women had to replace them in the workforce. Women were not being treated equally so they began to protest and fight for their rights.
What is feminism?
A belief in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes
