What is the ‘Treaty of Versatiles’?
The Treaty of Versatiles was an agreement signed in 1919, which blamed Germany for all of WWI. It forced Germany to surrender colonies in Africa and Asia, pay the Allied Forces for all damages made, and take all of the blame for WWI. This act unfortunately caused WW2.
What was the ‘Triple Alliance’?
The alliance made between Austria-Hungary, Germany, Italy and the Ottoman Empire.
What was the ‘Triple Entente’?
The alliance made between Britain, France, Russia and Australia.
What is ‘Gallipoli’?
Gallipoli is a peninsula located in Turkey, where Australia and Turkey fought in WW1. Australia’s aim was to knock the Ottoman Empire out of the war to threaten Germany.
Define ‘assassination’.
The action of murdering someone.
What was the ‘Western Front’?
“The Western Front, a 400-plus mile stretch of land weaving through France and Belgium from the Swiss border to the North Sea, was the decisive front during the First World War. Whichever side won there – either the Central Powers or the Entente – would be able to claim victory for their respective alliance.”
Define ‘Imperialism’.
Imperialism is the theory behind the conquering of countries / colonies and expansion of empires.
What was the ‘Home Front’?
“The home front during World War I covers the domestic, economic, social and political histories of countries involved in that conflict. It covers the mobilization of armed forces and war supplies lives of others, but does not include the military history.”
Define ‘evacuation’.
The action of removing a person / people away from a certain area that could cause potential threat to their lives.
Define ‘casualties’.
“A person killed or injured in a war or accident.”
What is the ‘ANZAC Myth’?
“The Anzacs on Gallipoli helped shape the Australian story. Once used to refer to those who fought in World War I, ‘Anzac’ now represents all men and women who serve Australia. The term also expresses the characteristics that are seen as Australian, including: courage. egalitarianism.”
