Totalitarianism: One person or party has complete control over all aspects of a nation.
What is appeasement?
Britain’s strategy to give into Hitler’s demands to preserve ‘Peace for Our time’
What was US’s stance on Germany?
Isolationist - US would stay out of international affairs
Internationalist USA has a responsibility to get involved
“Arsenal of Democracy” - US must support their democratic allies
Neutrality Act - US prevented trading with any nation at war.
Cash and Carry - US would sell weapons and materials to nations.
Lend-Least Act - Lent weapons, artillery, ships to the Allies.
What brought the US into WW2?
- Japan invaded China and caused many atrocities there
- In order to stop Japanese expansion in Asia
- US refused to sell oil to Japan until they withdrew from China.
-Pearl harbor, US is outraged.

US rationed food for the war effort, people grew Victory Gardens to reserve for soldiers
US mobilized for a 2 front war
War bonds - Where people would loan money to the gov and they would pay back
When men were fighting abroad, women worked in the factories to fill in.
What is double V campaign
People wanted a victory at war and a victory against discrimination against African Americans.
Led to African Americans joining the army without segregation.
