Who was Joseph Stalin?
A russian ruler of the Soviet Union who lead the Red Army to defeat the Nazi Germany during WW2
Who was Adolf Hitler?
The leader of the Nazi Party who served as a dictator from 1934-1945. He caused lots of chaos and left a mark, starting WW2 and the Holocaust.
Who was Franklin D. Rosevelt?
The 32nd US president and the only one to be elected 4 times. He led the US through the Great Depression and WW2. He was president from 1933-1945.
Who was Rosie the Riveter?
An icon representing American women who worked during WW2 and encouraged them to keep going and to think about the good they were doing.
What was D-Day?
During the Battle of Normandy which started in 1944 and resulted in the allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazis control.
What was the Japanese Internment?
When US citizens of Japanese descent were put in concentration camps because they were worried that any Japanese would spy or sabotage their plans.
What was Hiroshima/Nagasaki?
When an American bomber dropped an A-Bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima in revenge of the Pearl Harbor attack.
What are Allies?
A group of nations taking millitary actions together in particular the countries that fought with the US in WW1 and WW2. - (US, France, Soviet Union)
What are Axis?
An agreement or alliance between two or more countries that forms a center for an eventual larger grouping of nations. - (Germany, Japan, Italy)
What is Island Hopping?
After the Battle of Midway, the US decided to move from island to idland dropping bombs and causing chaos until they reach Japan.
What was the Holocaust?
A devastating Nazi movement in pursuit of perfection led by Adolf Hitler who killed more than 6 million jews (as well as gypsies and homosexuals). It was also one of the things that caused the start of WW2.
What is Kamakazi?
In 1944, during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the Japanese deploy suicide bombers against American warships for the first time.
What is Blitzkrieg?
A German term for “lightning war,” is a military tactic designed to create disorganization among enemy forces through the use of mobile forces and locally concentrated firepower.
What is Operation Barbarossa?
On June 22, 1941,Adolf Hitler sent his armies to massively invade the Soviet Union with three great army group with over 3 million soldiers, 150 divisions and 3,000 tanks to invade Soviet territory. The invasion covered from the North Cape, to the Black Sea.
What is the Battle of Stalingrad?
From July 17, 1942 to Feb. 2, 1943, stopped the German advance into the Soviet Union and marked the turning of the tide of war in favor of the Allies. It was known as one of the bloodiest battles in history, with combined military and civilian deaths of nearly 2 million.
