Who was William Lyon mackenzie king? Describe him.
William king was the PM of Canada during WW2, his leadership helped Canada become a respected member of the international community. King helped mobilized Canadian resources, enacted conscription and implemented policies to help the military and home front. He also helped Canada play a key role in the Allied powers. He helped Canada contribute to the battle of atlantic and liberation of Europe in which the Allied won.

What was one of the main causes of WW2
The Nazi invasion of Poland in 1939. Adolf hitler wanted to expand german territory and power in Europe. He invaded Poland which broke the Treaty of versailles, which led to Britan and France declaring war on Germany.
The Nazi-Soviet pact agreed to split poland and not fight, Poland does not want to be split, Hitler invades, Britan, france, Canada declare war on germany.

Who was mussolini?
Mussolini was a fascist dictator, he was extremely nationalistic and dictative. He wanted to expand Italys territory which caused him to align with Nazi germany and supported Hitlers idea of a fascist government. He entered the war on the Axis side, however his military campaigns were unsuccessful which led to him being executed in 1945.

What was the Axis powers?
Axis powers was a coalition of countries led by the Nazi germany. It included Germany, Imperial Japan and Fascist Italy. They often battled against the Allied. They aimed to expand territory and promote fascism, imperialism, and militarism.

Prime minister of UK during WW2. He coordinated military strats against NAzi germany and helped the Allied be successful. He helped lead the D-day invasion to a victory for the Allied.

WAVES (women accepted for voluntary emergency services.) Women were allowed to take over non-combat roles
Who was hirohito?
He was a Japanese emperor and reigned over japan through world war 2. He regiend japan through the invasion of manchuria and attack on pearl harbour. He ended his serve from 1926 till his death in 1989. After the war he played a key role in the transition to a constitutional monarch.

Was the US president during ww2, he worked closely with other nations of the Allied to help form strs to defeat Nazi germany. He led the Allied to victory against Nazi germany. served from 1933 until his death in 1945
What was the pact between soviet union and germany and what was it called?
THe molotov-ribbentrop pact. It was a non aggression pact in which Stalin signed. It let Nazi take over western europe while letting soviet union remain neutral. It was broken when hitler invaded soviet union in 1941, called operation barbossa.
Joseph Stalin?
Dictatorship and leader of soviet union. Famous for signing the non-aggression pact with Nazi germany. Stalin ralyed the soviet union against the Nazi’s, molibized miltary and worked with the Allied nations. 1922-53

33rd president, served from 1945-53 after FDR’s death. Most famously known for dropping atomic bomb on hiroshima and nagasaki in 1945, ended WW2

Adolf hitler?
He was a dictator of the Nazi party and Nazi germany. he promotoed facism and racist ideas. He orchestrated the holocaust killing 6 million jews, advertising the aryan race and germans as superior and jews as the enemy. He infiltratetd many pacts such as the molotov-ribbentrop. His goal was to expand greater german empire (third reich) and take over europe then eventually the world. DIed by suicide in april 30 1945.

What was appeasement?
Appeasement was a policy Britan, france and Canada took towards germany in the 1930’s. Britan and France would give i to hitlers requests as long as they were REASONABLE and PREVENTED war. AN example of this can be the Munich agreement in 1938. Hitler was given permission to take over sudetenland in Czech as long as he tried nothing more. France wanted to protect Czech and britan placed pressure on Czech to avoid war.
Isolationism?
Isolationism is a country’s policy of non-involvment in political and military affairs of other countries. An example of this is the US in ww2. Isolationists believed ww2 was a dispute btw foreign countries and that US has no good reason to get involved. Instead they should build their own forced and remain neutral. They avoided alliances and other international relations
Fascism?
A political ideology, usually led by a single dictator with extremely nationalistic and authoritarian values. Usually totalitarian. Fascist government promote expansionism and militarism. They prioritize the interests of a singular nation or ethnic group over individual human rights. Propaganda is used to control the publics ideas.
Eg, the axis power (japan, italy, germany) and the Nazi’s were heavily fascist.
What happend to the Munich agreement in 1938?
Agreement that allowed hitler to take pver Sudetenland (claimed most ppl living there wanted to be apart of germany). Leaders agree as long as he stops there. Hitler don’t care abt agreement and invades all of Czech. Britan claims they will fight if he invades poland (which he did in 1939)
What was the league of nations?
pact between 42 countries created after ww1 to prevent another war from occuring however it massively failed. It consisted of 42 countries (including china, ethipia and japan but they withrew in 1933)
Explain 2 times where the LON failed.
- Invasion of Manchuria. Japan had imperialistic policies under hirohito and wanted to expand and take over pacific. They invaded Manchuria a chinese province and china appealed the league of nations and got no response. (1931)
- Invasion of Ethiopia. Mussolini rose to power and was a fascist imperialist. He wanted more land so he invaded ethiopia, no response from LON. (1935)
