Situated near ports on the coast - had many medical stuff including doctors
patients could stay for some time before returning to the front or being sent home for futher treatment
Carrel-dakin method
Solutions: Debridement (cutting away of infected tissue) & Carrel-Dakin method (a sterilised salt solution put into the wound through a tube) or amputation if nothing else worked.
Impact: A reduction in amputation, but by 1918 240,000 men lost limbs.
