Alliances:
-majority powers
-Germany, Austria Hungary
-Britain, Russia, France
Imperialism:
-lots of lands owned by Britain and France
-France has lots of Africa
-Britain has 5 countries
-Germany no like this
Nationalism:
-Extreme pride in country willing to do anything for it
-believe your country best
-Germany gets lots of land (So pride grows)
-Nationalist groups form in many countries
Militarism:
-Military and weapons become very important
- France, Germany has an arms race
- Britain, Germany compete for power of seas

Central powers-Germany, austria- Hungary, Ottoman empire Bulgaria
Allies: Great Britain, France, Russia, Serbia, Belgium, japan, U.S, Italy

Zeppelin- airship filled with bombs
Tank- indistructableso lots of protection
Gas- deadly sufication and chemical burns
Planes- used for bombs spying fishing and dogfights

What was the ultimatum that Austria-Hungary gave to Serbia?
When after the duke was killed austria wanted to investigate the serbian gov and if they said no they wanted to go to war

What is the League of Nations? Why did it fail?
Coalition of nations meant to mediate when problems arose
Failed because countries couldn’t negotiate peacefully when issues arose
U.S never joined
What was the situation with the Zimmermann note and why did it bring the US into the war?
A telegram to Mexico from Germany asking them to invade the U.S. (to distract them from war) was an alliance offer against the U.S.. It also threatened to end the restricted sub warfare which was one of the main reasons the U.S. joined Mexico would also get its territory back from the U.S. and Germany would make sure of that. Britain gets the note and tells the U.S.
Explain the sinking of the Lusitania.
Britain made a ship carrying many British and American civilians that Germany sunk because it had weapons that the people were unaware of. So then Germany was forced to follow strict rules regarding sub-warfare.
