Wuthering Heights & In Cold Blood Flashcards
Similarities between The Clutter home and Thrushcross Grange
Neat, wealthy, ‘manicured’, privileged. the homes look nice but the happiness is false. They’re both separated from the community -> They think themselves better then some.
Similarities between Heathcliff and Perry
They are outsiders in society, difficult childhoods, problems with race, they look different to others in society.
Heathcliff and Perry are both unwanted - both rejected and they’re not accepted.
Similarities between Hindley and Dick
Early upbringing is good, later life is bad. They should be happier if childhood matters. They moved away from the security of home.
How are the settings similar in both of the books?
Very natural and rural, nature is important symbolically. Small rural communities -> separated from a wider world, not places we expect wild happenings, people are gossipy and know everyone’s business -> narrative styles
Main theme in both books
LONLINESS
