Who was Wundt?
The founder of psychology. He established the first scientific lab dedicated to psychology in Leipzig, Germany
What did Wundt do?
He invented introspection
How did Wundt experiment with introspecton?
Wundt used controlled stimuli (picture or ticking metronome) and asked pp’s to describe their emotions and report on their intensity, quality and duration. Introspections were kept under strictly controlled conditions and instructions were standardised so procedure could be replicated
What is introspection?
The examination or observation of one’s own mental and emotional processes
What is empiricism?
the idea that knowledge comes from experience
What is determinism?
the idea that events are caused by factors outside of a human’s control
