  • U – Pry objects. Opening doors, windows & locks. Removing nails. Gain access.
  • C – Heavy Steel.
  • O – Place bar between 2 objects. Leverage bar. Use chock. Use claw to pull nails.
  • M – Damp cloth. Check for jags/burrs.
  • S – PPC/PPE. Clear space. Be aware of loose fragments.

  • W – Ceiling Hook
  • U – Remove plaster ceilings. Remove overhead debris. Break windows for entry.
  • C – Wooden handle, metal spur. Beveled edge for cutting. Wide flat edge for pulling.
  • O – Ceiling Plaster: Stand to side. Pierce plaster. Pull with flat edge.
    Window: Stand to side. Break glass - start at top corner. Remove jagged edges.
  • M – Damp cloth. Check handle/spur for cracks.
  • S – PPC/PPE. Be aware of falling objects.

  • W – Combination Axe
  • U – Pounding, chopping & forced entry
  • C – Fiberglass handle. Rubber grip. Steel head (3kg). Flat end: Pounding/striking. Axe face: Chopping/splitting.
  • O – Strike surface squarely. Avoid glancing blows.
  • M – Damp cloth. Check head is secure. Check blade is sharp and undamaged. Inspect handle for cracks/splits.
  • S – Clear space. PPE.

  • W – Fuse Puller
  • U – Disconnect power supply to structure
  • C – Fiberglass telescopic pole. 1.55m - 5.05m. Low voltage - pigtail & hook.
  • O – PPE. Turn off power at mains. Attach correct end and extend to length. Tap side of fuse holder. Insert/hook fuse puller. Look away and pull fuse. Put fuse in meter box - Tape X on box.
  • M – Silicone fabric cloth. Check handle and ends for cracks/damage. Check quick release function.
  • S – Never re-install fuses. Look away when pulling fuses.

  • W – Rake hoe
  • U – Remove fuel at a grass fire. Scrape bark from burnt trees to expose hot spots. Make a mineral break along a fire edge. Turn over rubbish to locate hot spots.
  • C – Timber handle, metal head.
  • O – Firm grip. Short chOpping actions.
  • M – Damp cloth. Check handle for cracks/splinters. Inspect head for damage. Ensure head is secure.
  • S – Clear space. Carry tool by side with teeth facing down & Grasp handle above metal head.

  • W – Shovel
  • U – Salvage work/digging.
  • C – Steel head & timber shaft. Fiberglass shaft and steel head.
  • O – Place hand on handle and other hand further down of shaft. Slide the mouth of the shovel into the material to be shifted. Ensure the load is not too heavy.
  • M – Hose down and dry. Check handle for splits/cracks. Check blade for damage.
  • S – Maintain safe footing. Bend knees. Don’t pile material around hole’s edge.

  • W – Rabbit Tool
  • U – Forced Entry
  • C – Hydraulic hand pump, small ram fitted with stainless steel jaws (4 ton capacity), 1.8m rubber coated high pressure hose. Comes with mallet and pry bar.
  • O – 1. Connect high pressure hose between hydraulic pump and ram. 2. Insert rabbit tool jaws between door and door jamb. 3. Turn pump relief valve on = Clockwise. 4. Pump the handle continuously. 5. Turn the pump relief valve off = anti-clockwise
  • M – Check if exposed to water/grit. Check for oil leaks.
  • S – 2-person operation. Do not allow damage/exposure to hose. PPE.

  • U – Accessing reticulated water supplies
  • C – Refer to Diagram
  • O –
  • Don PPE/PPC
  • Remove hydrant cover – check for hazards
  • Grasp spindle and place hydrant across knee to check washers, wingnut and cup valve
  • Place standpipe in hydrant. Turn handles to ship.
  • Turn headpiece clockwise.
  • Turn spindle to flush hydrant.
  • Turn spindle all the way clockwise then back half a turn.
  • To unship turn anti-clockwise using shipping handles.
  • M –
  • Check washers are present and for damage
  • Check body for damage
  • Wipe with damp cloth
  • Check all moving parts are working
  • S – Wear PPE. Don’t lean over standpipe.

  • S – PPE. Reignition/flashbacks danger. Beware use in confined space.

  • U – Cutting locks, chains and allowing access
  • C – Plastic and metal body, gears, flanges and antivibration handle.
  • O – 1. Insert battery. 2. Check battery is charged sufficiently. 3. Depress paddle switch and get up to speed. 4. Two-hands. 5. Use with minimum pressure to avoid biting. 6. Release paddle switch to stop.
  • M: Remove battery, Inspect components for damage and clean components. Use mild soap and damp cloth to clean.
  • S – PPE. 2-hands. Stand to one side. Keep hand clear. Discard damaged discs. Don’t overload.

  • U – Spread, cut and squeeze vehicle bonnets and boots, light structural steel and reinforcing steel.
  • C – Lightweight metal construction, alloy handle. 28V lithium battery. Dead man handle. Hydraulic core.
  • O – 1. Clear work space and stable footing. 2. Insert battery and turn on. 3. Rotate handle right to spread. 4. Rotate handle left to close/cut.
  • M – Charge battery. Check tips and cutting edge for damage. Clean w/ damp cloth or nonmetallic brush. Visually inspect tool for damage or leaks. Do not use if damage or leaks present.
  • S – PPE. Keep hands clear. Check Deadman handle. Constant checks/observation. Avoid twisting tool. Keep personnel clear.
