Why do we require drinking water treatment?
Different water treatment methods provide safe drinking water for public drinking water communities.
What are the primary sources for drinking water?
Surface water collects on the ground or in the river, stream, lake, reservoir, or ocean.
Ground water is located below the surface of the earth in spaces between rock and soil.
What do you think the main differences would be between surface water and ground water?
Water is treated differently in different communities depending on the quality of the source water.
Surface water requires more treatment and filtration than ground water as lakes, rivers, and streams contain more sediments, germs, and chemicals, toxins.
How can operators help to prevent drinking-water problems?
According to Ontario Drinking Water Operator,
- Well-trained operators understand where their water comes from.
- What poses threats to that water
- What their system can do and how they need to respond when things start to go bad.
Microbiological and Chemical Contaminants in Water.
According to Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards:
- Microbiological Standards
- Chemical Standards
- Radiological Standards( natural and artificial)
what is in Pathogenic Organisms
- Viruses
- Protozoa ( Not all bacteria are pathogens)
- Bacteria
- Emerging Pathogens
