WRULDS Flashcards
List considerations to prevent WRULDS
Limiting repetitions
Body posture and position
Reducing force applied
Rate and pace of work
What are ways you could limit repetitions?
Regular switching between movements
Spread repetitions between different muscles and joints, e.g., switching hands
Job variation
Take breaks
Shorten shift rotations
Split task between multiple people
Use automation
How can body posture be improved?
Frequent changing of positions
Adjust seating keeping elbows at right angles
Provide desktop wrist support
Keep wrists straight
Adjustable seating and foot rests
Redesigning work stations e.g., to reduce reach or twisting
Correct tool use
How could you reduce force applied?
Use tools rather than physical effort
Maintain tools, e.g., replace blunt saws
Adapt tools e.g., use a jig
Reduce weight of tools or objects
Use mounting fixtures taking weight out of workers hands
Spread the force access fingers / limbs
Proper hand protection with good grip
Training on techniques to reduce necessary force
How do you manage the rate and pace of work?
Build speed gradually so the body becomes accustomed to new movements
Pace yourself and include rest breaks
Slow machine speed down if possible
Train in technique improvement to increase output while keeping physical strain low.
What HSE guidance advises on WRULDS?
