Written Test Flashcards
Flexion
agonist is shortening, antagonist is lengthening, joint angle is decreasing
Extension
agonist is lengthening, antagonist is shortenting, joint angle is increasing
Abduction
movement away from the midline of the body
Adduction
movement towards the midline of the body
Prone
face down or palms down
Supine
face up or palms up
Rotation
movement around an axis
Circumduction
circular movement of a limb
Isotonic
: muscle lengthens and shortens with a constant resistance throughout the entire
range of motion (what we do in class)
Isokinetic
maximal amount of force is generated throughout the entire range of motion
at a constant speed
Isometric
muscle contracts but does not lengthen or shorten and there is no change in
joint angle
Phases of isotonic and isokinetic contractions
concentric and eccentric
Concentric phase
the muscle is shortening
Eccentric phase
the muscle is lengthening
What are some rules for weight lifting?
Spotting is typically used when weight is taken over the body with multijoint exercises
Communication
Do not place hands on bar until asked to do so
The lifter determines when help is needed
