Q

3a. What punishment might we give Pete if we wanted to achieve rehabilitation? (Point and explain)

A

Rehabilitation is used to help a criminal change their ways. Pete has struggled finding work since he doesn’t have the necessary qualifications, therefore we could give him some education lessons to help him gain the means to get a good job. This would mean that he could support his new family by earning enough money through his newly achieved qualifications.

Q

3b. What punishment might we give Pete if we wanted to achieve reparation? (Point and explain)

A

Reparation is making the criminal fix the damage they did, and it is another way to punish the criminal and seek revenge for the victims. To achieve reparation we could fine Pete, showing him the consequences of his actions. Or we send him to prison. In prisons there are sometimes prison industries where they can produce goods to sell to the public. This could demonstrate to Pete the importance of hard work and how you can be rewarded by it and honesty.
