What is a narrative?
Telling a story - has beginning, middle, and end. Contains characters and conflict.
What is man vs. self? (conflict)
Issue within the character (eg. addiction, struggle, guilt, physical and mental health)
What is man vs. nature? (conflict)
Character vs. animals, weather, physical body or illness, addiction, time
What is man vs. machine? (conflict)
Character vs. a usable object or actual machine, organizations, religion, war
What is man vs. society? (conflict)
Character vs. a group of people with something in common.
What is an illustration paragraph?
A type of expository paragraph that exposes the point by illustrating it with evidence (proof), or examples.
What is a classification paragraph?
Shows how something can be categorized by a set of criteria.
What is a descriptive paragraph?
Uses five senses to paint the picture - uses lots of details.
What is a persuasive paragraph?
Uses facts, examples, opinion to get the reader to adopt your point of view.
What is a process paragraph?
Tells how to do something or how something happens. Follows a logical sequence from beginning to end (includes steps).
What is a definition?
It defines something by examples and by explaining it - not just dictionary.
