- Serious and important plot.
- Turns out disastrously for the main character.
- Should arouse pity and fear in the audience.
What is a tragic hero?
- Neither an all good nor all bad person.
- “Better than we are” (higher moral worth)
- Suffers a change in fortune (from happiness to misery)
What is a tragic flaw?
- Error in judgement
- Disregards a warning or moral law (hubris)
- We can recognize similar errors in our own lives.
