The Three (3) kinds of Definition Explanation in Explaining a Concept Paper include:
- Informal
- Formal
- Extended
A way of explaining a concept wherein the explanation is brief and parenthetical.
Informal Definition
A way of explaining a concept wherein it incorporates terms, its general category, and its distinctive quality.
Formal Definition
A way of explaining a concept wherein it involves the Patterns of Development, is detailed, and is at least one (1) paragraph long.
Extended Definition
A way of explaining a concept wherein sentences, verses, and/or quotes from different academic texts are interpreted in the writer’s own words and explained.
Explication
A way of explaining a concept wherein it is organized from general abstract idea to specific (Deductive).
Includes examples and specifying characteristics to arrive at one working definition to be used throughout the paper.
Clarification
