What happens at a convergent boundary

Slide away. Cause volcanic activity, earthquakes and ridges

Slide past (faults and earthquakes)
What is parent material
Rock that is worn down and becomes the base of soil

Not weathered, lots of groundwater, similar to parent material
What is B horizon
Rich in minerals (iron clay aluminum), zone of illuvation, subsoil
What is A horizon
Topsoil, organic material, humus, nutrient poor due to leaching
What is O horizon
Humus and organic materials
Factors of clay
Smooth texture, high water holding capacity, small particles, slow permeability, porous and fertile
Factors of loam
Combination of silt, Sand and clay. Good for agriculture
Factors of sand
Low water holding capacity, large particles, moderate permeability, infertile
Factors of silt
Smooth texture, holds moderate amount of water, low permeability

The movement of water through the layers of soil
What is a watershed?
An area of land where all of the flowing water converges into a single point
What’s impervious cover?
Areas that don’t allow water through
What’s a trubutary?
Stems of water (rivers) that connect together
What’s a divide in a watershed?
A part of land that’s slanted so the water flows down towards the tributary
What are the three air cells?
Ferrell, Hadley and Polar
What’s the coirolis effect?
Causes storms to spin clockwise in the southern hemisphere and counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere.
What’s trade winds?
Winds that blow east to west slightly above and below the equator
