What are the 3 main types of wounds?
Lacerations(Blunt Force Trauma), Incised wounds, Gunshot wounds
Kinds of Blunt Force Trauma
Abrasions (speed and angle): superficial bleeding
Contusions (force/impact): burst blood vessels, lasting dark bruising, external or internal bleeding
Lacerations (force, breakage of the skin): skin is broken, external bleeding
Characteristics: Lacerations
Need force and/or angle
Margins - inward
Characteristics: Incised
Sharp object used to break the skin
Margins - outward
What types of incised wounds are there? Define
Stab: goes directly into the body, bigger depth (needs force)
Slice/Cut: slice across the body, bigger width
Characteristics: Gunshot
Pierce the body, typically straight through
Entrance hole is small, exit hole is larger
Margins - inward (entrance), outward (exit)
Intentions
Homicidal - harming another to cause death
Suicidal - harming oneself to cause death
Accidental - causing someone harm in order to protect oneself (self-defense)
Self-inflicted - harming oneself not to cause death
Undetermined - No known or one reason could be determined
What is the importance of Nursing (wounds)
Potential forensic significance, studying wounds to determine the circumstance
What wounds can be considered supicous
Same injury on both sides of the body
Triangle between ears and neck
Naturally protected parts of the body: inner arms, inner thighs
