Wound Healing Flashcards
What is a wound?
When any of the layers of the skin has been damaged
How many main categories of wounds are there?
4
Which wound heals quickly and as expected?
Acute wounds
Acute wounds has minimal loss of what?
Tissue
Which wound is an open wound?
Chronic wound
As a result of an chronic wound damage tissue ends up being replaced by what?
Scar tissue
What is the most important cell when it comes to chronic wounds?
Fibroblasts
What are the 4 phases of wound healing?
- Haemostasis
- Inflammation
- Proliferation
- Maturation
How many phases are there in wound healing?
4
When does the stage haemostasis start?
Immediately following an injury to blood vessels
How many stages are in the stage haemostasis?
3
What are the 3 stages of haemostasis?
Vasoconstriction, the formation of a platelet plug, the biochemical response
What happens in haemostasis vasoconstriction stage?
Blood vessels constrict. This causes the wound to ‘close’. As a result there is less or no bleeding from the wound
What does the inflammation stage involve?
Both a cellular and vascular response
What stage of healing cleans up any pathogens/ organisms and dead/ dying tissue?
Inflammation
