Wound Dressings Flashcards
1
Q
Temperature in wound care
A
- Maintain constant temp
- Wound bed is 25-32 degrees C
- Takes 2-4 hours for wound to return to homeostasis
- Consider rational behind BID (2X/day) dressing changes
- Low temp slow all chemical reactions
- Increase in temp increases PO2 in tissues (want high O2 saturation in arterial side, want low on venous side)
2
Q
None-scant drainage and dressing type
A
- Transparent film
- Hydrogel
3
Q
Scant to moderate drainage and dressing type
A
- Hydrocolloid-transparent film with attitude
- Gauze
4
Q
Moderate to large drainage and dressing type
A
- Calcium alginate
- Foam
- Silver dressing
- Super absorbent
5
Q
Shallow wound and dressing type
A
- Transparent film
- Gauze
6
Q
Deep wounds and dressing type
A
- Foam
- Hydrogel
7
Q
Scant drainage and dressing changes
A
About weekly
8
Q
Moderate drainage and dressing changes
A
About every day
9
Q
Heavy drainage and dressing changes
A
About every 12 hours
10
Q
If it is wet
A
Absorb it
11
Q
If it is dry
A
Moisten it
12
Q
If it is shallow
A
Cover it
13
Q
If it is deep
A
Fill it
14
Q
Support living
A
Get rid of dead
15
Q
Primary dressing
A
Comes in contact with wound (sterile)
16
Q
Secondary dressing
A
- Holds primary dressing in place
- Does not come into contact with wound bed
- Absorbs exudate
