Worship Flashcards
What are the two types of worship?
A) Liturgical worship - set form of worship, using set prayers or agreed words.
B) Non-liturgical worship - freer and more spontaneous. May involve dancing.
Why is worship important?
Worship shows respect, devotion, and thanks to God. It allows believers to ask for forgiveness of sins and reminds Christians of beliefs and traditions.
What is informal worship?
Informal worship depends on people’s spontaneous prayers or sharing of thoughts. Quaker worship is mainly silent, with people speaking when they feel God’s spirit moving them.
What is private worship?
Private worship allows individuals to spend time with God, either alone or with close family and friends. It may involve prayer, meditation, studying, or meditating on Bible passages.
What is liturgical worship and why is it important?
Liturgical worship involves receiving forgiveness from God through the action of a priest and experiencing the living presence of Jesus in Holy Communion. Bible readings follow the Christian calendar and teach Christian history.
What is non-liturgical and informal worship and why is it important?
Non-liturgical worship follows early Christians who met to hear about Jesus in the joy of the Spirit after Pentecost. Faith is expressed in various ways, allowing Christians to share personal interpretations of the Bible.
