Prayer Flashcards
Why do Christians pray?
To talk to their Father in heaven who they believe will listen and answer their prayers.
Adoration - praise God for things he has done; Supplication - asking God for specific needs; Confession - saying sorry for their sin; Thanksgiving - thanking God for all he has given them.
What are informal prayers? Quote
Prayers that are not often written down, typically found in Evangelical and Pentecostal churches. They are spontaneous and led by the Holy Spirit.
The Bible says Christians should ‘pray on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests’ (Ephesians 6:18).
What are private prayers?
Prayers conducted at home, either in silence or aloud, allowing for personal reflection on what God has done.
There is no pressure to use set words.
What are set prayers? E.G.
Prayers commonly used in Anglican or Catholic church services, often involving reading from a book of common prayers.
The most famous is the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6, taught by Jesus.
What is the Lord’s Prayer?
A prayer taught by Jesus, beginning with ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name…’ and addressing various aspects of Christian belief.
It emphasizes God’s personal nature, His provision, the need for forgiveness, and reliance on Him.
What is the importance of the Lord’s Prayer?
It provides a pattern for prayer, combines praise with requests, and reminds Christians to forgive others.
It links all people back to Jesus and fosters a sense of unity and spiritual purpose.
What are the different attitudes to prayer?
Some prefer set prayers for comfort in ancient words, while others prefer informal prayers to express personal emotions directly to God.
