Worship
A way in which Christian’s show their deep love and respect for God.
What does worship involve
Alone or with others
In a special building like a church or in peoples homes.
Prayer, meditation, bible readings, singing hymns and celebrating festivals
Why do Christian’s worship
To praise and thank god for his blessings.
To ask for forgiveness of sin and to seek God’s help for themselves or others who may be suffering
Liturgical worship
-Church service that follows a set structure or ritual
How does liturgical worship work
-A priest leads a congregation in formal prayers that have set responses.
Bible passages are read out and a priest may perform a symbolic actions that have a specific meaning.
Music hymns sung by congregation
Example of a liturgical worship
Orthodox churches
Non liturgical worship
A service that does not follow a set order or ritual.
Examples of non liturgical churches
Nonconformist churches- Methodist, Baptist and United reformed church.
Services may choose a theme that place an emphasis on the word of God.
Service is focussed on bible readings and a sermon based on the readings
Informal worship
A type of non- liturgical worship
“Spontaneous”
Example of informal worship
Quaker services-
Depend on spontaneous prayer or sharing of thoughts. Quaker worship is usually silent l.
People speak when they feel Gods spirit moving through them
Pentecostal church
Charismatic may involve dancing l, clapping and speaking in tongues
Why is liturgical worship important to Christian’s
