What was the Chinese head tax?
It was a tax that the Canadian government knew lots of immigrants wouldn’t be able to afford. They used this tax as a way to keep the Chinese immigrants out of Canada.
How much was the Chinese head tax?
The tax started at $50 but when people started to be able to afford it Canada changed it to $100 and after a while, the $100 tax started to be more affordable so they raised it to $500.

It was a group of Sikhs that were trying to immigrate to Canada. They came by ship but the Canadian government wouldn’t allow them into Canada. They made it seem as if the paperwork was taking a long time but the Canadian tactic was to make them wait so long that they would have to go back because they would starve if they didn’t.
What happened to Aboriginals?
Aboriginals were treated as second class. They were put into residential schools, they had to live on reserves, the Canadian government really pushed farming on them instead of allowing them to as much traditional hunting. There was just a lot of racism towards aboriginals. All of this caused Natives to become dependant on the government.

The Indian act was made to push indigenous people into mainstream society and get rid of the cultural differences of indigenous people.

What was consription?
Conscription was basically being picked to go to war instead of just enlisting yourself. Men between the ages of 18 and 45 were eligible for conscription. Conscription only became a thing later into the war when many men had died and not many other men were enlisting anymore.
