What was the Chinese head tax?

It was a tax that the Canadian government knew lots of immigrants wouldn’t be able to afford. They used this tax as a way to keep the Chinese immigrants out of Canada.

A
The tex started at $50 but when people started to be able to afford it Canada changed it to $100 and after a while, the $100 tax started to be more affordable so they raised it to $500.
