Gavrillo Princip was a member of the Black Hand Gang. The Black Hang Gang wanted Bosnia to be a part of Serbia, however Hungary ruled over Bosnia (Hungary was part of the Triple Alliance). If the Black Hand Gang murdered Franz Ferdinand, it would frighten Hungary and persuade them to give Bosnia to Serbia

A

Using 90% of German army to attack Franc meant that if Russia mobilized quickly, Germany would be vulnerable
French might be defending the Belgian border rather than the German border so could up German advance.
Counting a swift defeat of France, but the army might put put more of a fight, rivers which could be hard for 1 million men to cross quickly
Counted on Belgium not fighting back so crossing it in 3 days, however they took 3 weeks in Belgium
