What was WWI?
The first modern fully industrialized war fought between the Allies(triple entente) & Central powers
What was the Treaty of Versailles?
A contract between the Allies & central powers that ended WWI.
What was the League of Nations?
International organization designed to encourage democracy and prevent future wars
What were the seven new weapons/fighting styles used in WWI that were never used in battle before?
Trench warfare, air warfare, machine guns, tanks,u-boats, poison gas, and gas masks
Why did Austria-Hungary declare war on Serbia?
They thought Serbia was involved with the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand.
What was Russia’s response to Austria-Hungary declare of war on Serbia?
They announced they were preparing their army.
What happened after Russia’s announcement?
Germany declared war on Russia, 2 days later Germany declared war on France.
How did England get involved with the war?
When Germany invaded Belgium, England declared war on Germany.
What caused Russia to withdraw from WWI?
The Bolshevik Revolution
Why did the U.S. get involved?
Germany sank several U.S. merchant ships so the United States declared war on Germany.
What happened after US troops arrived in Germany?
It was to much for the Germans and they surrendered.

What punishments were given to Germany as a result of the treaty of Versailles?
They had to take responsibility for the war, limit their army to 100,000 volunteers, give up territory to Allies, give up foreign colonies, and pay reparations.
How did the Germans feel about their punishments and what were the long lasting effects of that treatment?
They felt that they were treated unfairly and to harshly. The resentment was one of the causes of WWII.
Describe the post-war conditions in Europe?
30 million were died or wounded, 75% drop in industrial production, widespread starvation, and millions were out of work.
