What did Hitler do as Chancellor of Germany?
He abolished free speech, free elections, and racial and religious tolerance. He outlawed opposing political parties and broke up trade unions.
How did Hitler and the Nazis treatJews and other minorities?
Jews had their property taken away. Their churches and property were destroyed and Jews and other minorities were sent to concentration camps where they were murdered.
Holocaust
Refers to the 6 million murdered during WWII by Hitler and the Nazis.
Appeasement
The giving in to the demands of an aggressor in order to keep the peace.

Short for National Socialist German Worker’ Party

A person or group that bears the blame for the mistakes of others.

The Nazi party gained control of the German parliament in 1932, and in 1933 Adolf Hitler was named “Chancellor” or leader of Germany.

What were the causes of WWII?
In many ways WWII resulted for unfinished business from WWI. Feelings of nationalism and imperialism were still around as well as the humiliation and anger felt by the Germans.
How did Germany break the Treaty of Versailles?
Hitler stopped paying reparations, he withdrew Germany from the League of Nations, he built up the army, and he sent soldiers into lands put off by the limits of the treaty.
What was the appeasement of Germany?
Hitler announced the unification of Germany and Austria. He then announced he was taking over a part of Czechoslovakia. France and Britain let Hitler have his way because they wanted to keep the peace and avoid another conflict.
How did the appeasement fail?
Ignoring agreements with France and Britain, Hitler soon took over the rest of Czechoslovakia. Seeing that the greater powers would not intervene, Italy took over Albania. France and England began preparing their militaries, when they saw that the appeasement only showed weakness.
What were the alliances and agreements?
France and England made alliances with Turkey, Greece, Romania, and Poland. Germany and Russia made an agreement that they would not attack each other.
