Describe the US official position at the beginning of WW2?
The US was in neutral position but supported the Allies and supplied goods to Britain and France.
Explain the purpose of the Lend-Lease Act?
Lend lease act allowed US to ship weapons, food and equipment to a country whose struggle assisted US defense
Why was Pearl Harbor significant?
The Pearl Harbor brought the US out of its neutrality state and US joined WW2. It also helped improve our security and intelligence system.
Explain the challenges fighting in the European and Pacific Theatres?
The pacific theatre faced challenges of delivering food, weapons, medical supplies to the region during war due to the long distance.
The European theatre faced challenges of taking too long to deliver supplies and gasoline shortage for ships
Describe the significance of D-Day?
D-Day refers to the date of the landing of allied troops on continental Europe along the beaches of Normandy France.

Describe the US policy of “island hopping”?
“Island hopping” was a strategy used to capture some islands and going around others. This helped gained control of the Pacific Ocean. To bring the us closer to Japan with each island purchase
Explain the advantage the US had over the Japanese at the Battle of Midway?
The US found out about the Japanese naval code which gave them a plan to attack midway island. A US possession west of Hawaii
Why was the battle of midway significant?
It evened the naval strength of the Japanese naval code and US fleets. The US navy was able to destroy 4 Japanese aircraft carriers and hundreds of airplanes making the US ready to go offensive on Japan
What was the Manhatten project? Why was Los Alamos important?
A secretive government project to a build a nuclear bomb. (1942-1946). Los Alamos, New Mexico was the location where the atomic bomb was tested and built
Why did the US develop the atomic bomb?
Truman wanted to avoid an invasion of Japan. He hoped this would make Japan surrender without having to invade them
Where were the first two atomic bombs dropped?
Hiroshima , Nagasaki (1945)
Describe the impact the war had on women?
Led many women to take jobs in defense plants and factories around the country. This made women prove they could do “mens” work
What role did African Americans play in WW2?
Served in the US military forces

A. Philip Randolph directed the March on Washington movement to end government job discrimination.
