Attempt to limit the spread of communist/ soviet influence without directly challenging or threatening the soviets

US offered economic, military assistance to help restore Europe
Explain the US policy of containment and the Truman doctrine?
Containment policy was the US approach to preventing the spread of communism.
Truman doctrine stopped the spread of communism by limiting it in countries that it already exists.
Describe the purpose of NATO and Warsaw Pact?
NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) created a Mutual for all of Western Europe against soviets
Warsaw Pact was the response from the soviets. Treaty with Eastern Europe for defense purposes
How did the Domino Theory work?
If a nation fell under communism then the neighboring nations would also fall

Korean War ended with tension. Korea was divided into communist North Korea and republic South Korea. Divided along the 38th Parallel
Explain the purpose and benefits of the GI bill?
Provided WW2 veterans with funds for their college education, unemployment insurance and housing.

How did President Truman advance the cause for civil rights?
Issued an executive order 9980 and 9981 to end segregation in the armed forces

Unfair tactic of accusing people of disloyalty without evidence
Red scares: was fear of communist spies in America
What incident led to the downhill of McCarthy?
McCarthy opened an investigation into the communist infiltration of the US army. Info that he had falsely accused many people led to being disgraced
What was the original purpose of the National Interstate and defense highway act?
Authorized the building of highways throughout the nation, connected cities, designed to meet the necessity for defense and commercial transportation
How did society change due to these highways?
It linked important commercial and urban centers across the nations that greatly contributed to surbanization.
