they put up a big poster and by the end of 1915 there were over 2.5 million men

they were areond two metres deep with spaces dug in the mud so solduirs coud try rest. they also often flooded

they were so dirty they became infetcted with lice and spread around. they also spread around trench fever

rats would be attracted by dead bodys and food then spread desiase
what was trench foot
when solduirs didnt take of there boots and there feet became blisterd. somtimes the feet had to be amputated
what was shell shock
shell shock was a mental health condition caused by soldiers being frightened of the constant explosions going on around them
how did the solduirs send messages home
they sent letters but they were cencored by the army so they dont give any infomation to the emimy
what was conscription
when all men between the age of 18-40 had to fight unless they had a valid reason not too

what was the battle of somme
france was under attack by germany and the British army started an offensive in the trenches near the river Somme, forcing the German army to divert their troops away from france. the British fired 3 million shells at the German trenches for 7 days, aiming to destroy their defences.
