What are the key events of the Marne?
A
- Britain sent BEF - 150,000 men
- Germany followed Schifflen plan, however Russia mobalised quicker than expected
- Had to split there troups, therefore they were pushed back from the position of 20 miles from Paris (Boming Distance)
- pushed them back at the River Ains due to French resistance and spliting army
- Lead to trench Warfare

- Control of the Dardinales straight
- Easy trade with Russia
- Ottamen Empire was stopping this`

- Down the straight, the battleships went down.
- They were getting shot at and hit sea mines
- Turned around, and landed at anzac cove

- Landed at Anzac Cove
- Landed in water - forced to swim to land
- They were surrounded by hills with turks
- They therefore got shot down.
- Once made it up the hill, stalemate
- Dug down
- Hot days and cool nights, meant lots of disease
- Retreated - considered a failure for the British

- Germany tried to break through enemy line
- Germany used attrition warfare to break down resistance
- German planned to launch attack on French Forts
- By 1916, over 700,000 men had been killed and the French were about to collapse

Explain the battle of the somme
A
- 10 day bombardment before hand
- knew the attack was coming
- This therefore lead to the germans ready with machine guns
- This then meant that they got mowed down - 57,000 deaths in first day

- partial success - drew attention away from Verdun - kept Frech morle high
- With numbers, they should have won the battle - partial faliure
