Agadir crisis
In 1911 Germany sent a gunboat named the panther to Agadir in Morocco to interfere with the French colonisation
This worried Britain and France and increased tensions as Germany was demonstrating there imperialistic intent
Germany was forced to back down
Assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand
June 28th 1914 the Arch duke was assassinated in Sarajevo Bosnia
The black hand gang a nationalistic group of Serbians organised the assassination as they were angered by Germany’s annexation of Bosnia as Bosnia and Serbia wanted to join to create a greater Serbia
How militarism causes war
countries with large and powerful armies will be more likely to go to war as they believe they will win
How alliances cause war
Small conflicts between two countries quickly escalate e.g. Germany invading Poland in WW2 triggered Britain to join the war
How imperialism causes war
Builds tensions as countries fight over who can have which colonies
How nationalism causes war
Countries believe they are better so will think they will win wars

How the treaty of Versailles lead to WW2
the war guilt clause mad Germany admit to the war forcing them to pay for the damage it caused 132 billion gold marks, the army had to be reduced to 100,000 men and they could not have a navy. This made Germans angry and placed them in a poor economic state to allow for extremist dictators to come to power
How the great depression lead to WW2
Many countries were in a poor economic state but Germany was worse off as the had loaned a lot of money from America to pay off reparations when the depression happened they asked for this money back
Unemployment rose from 1.3 million to 6 million
This allowed Hitler to take control

September 1 1939 Germany invaded Poland this triggered Britain and France to join the war beginning WW2
