US had left Afghanistan after the Soviets leave (1979-1989)
-the mujahedeen felt abandoned after the US had won a Cold War battle and felt the US had not
helped them to rebuild Afghanistan. By supporting Israel, the US has become an enemy of God in the opinion of extremists such as bin Laden and a prime target for Muslim terrorism groups like al Qaeda.

Iraq- Why did the US go here in 2003?

A

The focus by mid-2002 narrowed on dictator Saddam Hussein and his regime in Iraq. Bush warned that the possession of such weapons in the hands of an evil ‘megalomaniac” was a grave threat to peace, in the Middle East and the world at large. Operation Iraqi Freedom began on March 19, 2003. No smoking gun. Saddam Ḥussein was captured on December 13, 2003, (Operation Red Dawn) and was turned over to Iraqi authorities in June 2004 to stand trial for various crimes. he was convicted of crimes against humanity and was executed on December 30, 2006.
