workshop tests Flashcards
1
Q
corrosion workshop tests
A
- place equally sized material samples outside in an area exposed to the effects of the weather and leave for a set length of time
- materials visually inspected for surface corrosion
2
Q
electrical conductivity workshop tests
A
- collect material samples of same dimensions
- mark a set distance to place the multimeter probes
- measure the resistance on the multimeter
- higher the resistance, the lower the conductivity
3
Q
thermal conductivity workshop tests
A
- collect material samples
- measure a set distance from one end and place thermometer there
- light bunsen burner under the other end of the material
- record the time it takes for the to reach the set point at the other end of the material sample
- the shorter the time it takes, the higher the thermal conductivity of the material
4
Q
toughness workshop test
A
tough materials absorb impact, brittle materials bend/shatter
5
Q
hardness workshop test
A
material tested using dot punch and force from hammer
6
Q
malleability and ductility test
A
when the test piece is bent to an angle of 90 degrees
- cracks on outside indicate lack of ductility
- cracks on inside indicate lack of malleability
