What are workplace Health and Safety?
This refers to the relevant safety practices within an industry or workplace that have been legislated in government in consultation with employers and unions to keep employees safe in the workplace.
What are workplace Stake Holders
A stakeholder is any party with a vested interest in any specific or subject.
What are the 7 stakeholders?
Employees, Employers, Government, Safe workers, Unions, W.H.S. Inspector, W.H.S. Consultants.
What is Employees?
Employees have the right to a safe workplace and work activities. Have the responsibility to perform work safely and repeat potential hazards.
What is Employers
Are legally bound to provide a safe workplace and monitor workers, to ensure a safe workplace and monitor workers, to ensure work is carried out in a safe manner.
What is Governments
WHS is created and enforced by Government. In WA the body that controls W.H.S. legislation is Worksafe and work cover is the body that provides cover to the injured workers.
What is Unions
Groups that represent the common interests of workers, play a key role in the accountability of all other stakeholders in the W.H.S. process.
What is W.H.S. Inspector
Individuals who police safety standards at workplaces on behalf of the Government have the power to issue fines in a workplace if necessary.
What is W.H.S. Consultants
Private companies and individuals who work with businesses to ensure they are compliant with W.H.S. legislation and reduce the risk of injury on site.
Employment controls and conditions
(Tax file number)
Every worker working under a Tax File Number as a full-time or part-time employee is working under an employment control or workplace arrangement.
Registered Enterprise Arrangements
Arrangements are negotiated by employer and employee generally by a union acting on their behalf.
Modern Awards
Modern awards decide industry-wide standards.
Maximum Weekly Hours
This establishes the maximum weekly hours for employees as well as the circumstances in which an employee may refuse a request.
Flexible working arrangments
Employees who work for the same employer for 12 months can request flexible working arrangements like hours and location.
Becoming permanent employee
Casual employees who have worked for 12 months can be offered to work full time.
