Working Scientifically Flashcards
What is the control variable?
The variable that must remian the same
What is uncertainty?
Range/2
What is the dependant variable?
The variabke you measure
What is the independant variable?
The variable you change
What is the resolution
The smallest non-zero reading
What is the range?
The difference between the smallest and largest values
How do we write the uncertainty?
The mean +- the uncertainty (range/2)
When do you use a bar graph?
Categoric data (eye colour)
Where do the independant and dependant variables go on a graph?
Independant: x axis
Dependant: y axis
How do you draw uncertainty on a graph?
Using error bars around each plot on the graph
What are the 2 types of error?
Random error- Caused by the person doing the experiment
Systematic error- Due to the system or apparatus being used
What is the parallax error?
When someone’s eye level is not at the level of the liquid/ object when measuring
What are the similarities and differences between solar cells and solar heating panels?
Similarities:
- Both use solar energy from the sun
- They can be used domestically
- Unreliable depending on weather conditions
Differences:
- Solar water heaters heat water whilst solar cells produces electricity
- Solar heating panels more efficient when using electricyt to heat water
- Solar cells can be connected to the National Grid
