Q

Functions of the WMM?

A

Phonological loop deals with auditory info and preserves the order it enters
Articulatory loop is the inner voice which rehearses info
Visio-spatial sketch pad- Stores visual and spatial info
Episodic buffer- integrates info from both stores to form episodes

Q

Strengths of WMM?

A

Case study of KF provides evidence for- When digits read to him- recall poor- read himself- recall better. Suggests damages phonological loop and in tact VSSP.
Dual performance task, more difficult doing two visual tasks than one visual and one verbal task. Bc competing for the same resources in VSSP.
Brain scans show increased activity in the pre-frontal cortex when tasks gradual increase the attention required, provide evidence for CE.

Q

Limitations of WMM?

A

The explanation goes into detail on the short term memory than the MSM however doesn’t explain how info is transferred from long term memory.
The explanation of the central executive has been described as too simplistic. Psychologists think it is more complicated than just “Attention”
