Q

What is the function of the central executive

A

Giving attention to information from the other two stores making decisions about what’s most important also deals with cognitive tasks such as mental arithmetic and problem solving.
Limited capacity

Q

What is the function of the phonological loop

A

Phonological store inner ear holds information in a speech based form
Has limited capacity
Articulatory control process (inner voice) – Linked to speech production. Used to rehearse and store verbal information from the phonological store.

Q

What is the function of the Visio spatial sketch pad

A

Visuo-Spatial Sketchpad (inner eye): Stores and processes information in a visual or spatial form. The VSS is used for navigation.

Q

What is the function of the episodic buffer

A

The episodic buffer acts as a ‘backup’ store which communicates with both long term memory and the components of working memory.

Q

What are some positives of the working memory model

A

Practical applications- dyslexia help with reading and writing

Shows not unitary

The KF Case Study supports the Working Memory Model. KF suffered brain damage from a motorcycle accident that damaged his short-term memory. KF’s impairment was mainly for verbal information - his memory for visual information was largely unaffected.

Does not over emphasis reherhasal
