Working Memory Flashcards
Baddeley’s Working Memory Model
Phonological Loop - Central Executive - Visuospatial Sketchpad
Phonological Loop
contains phonological store and articulatory rehearsal process
Phonological Store
Holds information for seconds; limited capacity
Articulatory Rehearsal Process
Responsible for rehearsal that keeps phonological store from decaying
Articulatory Supression
reduces memory during repetition of irrelevant sounds because speaking interferes with rehearsal; eliminates the phonological similarity and word length effect
Visuospatial Sketchpad
creation of visual images in the mind during the absence of a physical stimulus
Central Executive
attention controller; determines how/where attention is focused/divided/switched
Preservation
repeatedly performing the same action, even if it is not producing the desired goal
Revised Baddeley’s Working Memory Model
Contains Episodic buffer
Episodic Buffer
Can store information and is connected to the long term memory
Area Associated with Working Memory
Prefrontal Cortex
